Keeping your garage cool throughout the summer months can be a challenging task, but thankfully we’re here to help!
Declutter your garage and avoid overcrowding
Overheating can easily occur if your garage is too full, and this is why decluttering is so important! If your floor space is covered with boxes and other items, try clearing this space by putting things on shelves instead. This will help to keep the floor space cooler and help maintain a consistent temperature within your garage.
Invest in a good quality dehumidifier
If your garage is damp, this can affect its temperature and make it feel warmer than it is. Investing in a good quality dehumidifier will help combat the dampness and help keep your garage feeling cooler. Dehumidifiers don’t release cold air they simply reduce dampness so it’s important to combine this approach with other options e.g., air conditioning. This will also help keep your belongings in good condition as dampness can cause endless problems if left untreated.
Insulate your garage door
If you already have an Insulated Garage Door, you shouldn’t need to add anything as it should already have sufficient insulation. However, if your garage door isn’t insulated, it’s certainly worth adding insulation or investing in a good-quality insulated garage door.
Insulation provides many excellent benefits and is usually the most common cause of heat entering and escaping a space. It helps regulate temperature by keeping your garage warm in winter and cool in summer, helping you to strike the perfect balance.
If you’re thinking of adding insulation to your entire garage yourself, we recommend that you implement the following options:
- Fix insulation onto the walls inside your garage.
- Apply insulation to the inside of the door.
- If your garage flooring is concrete, consider adding thicker flooring on top to make it warmer.
Park your vehicle outside or wait for it to cool before parking inside a garage
Cars become very warm when driven, which can also make your garage warm if you park your vehicle immediately. If you usually park inside your garage, we recommend that you wait for your car to cool down before parking. If your car is still in the sun this may not work, so it’s important to try to park it in the shade. This process usually takes a couple of hours but can make a difference when it comes to keeping garages cool. If you don’t allow your vehicle to cool, you’re effectively making your garage become warmer and more humid.
